MP3 Chapel Takeover at Mission to Seafarers — Matcha by Kiyocha
MP3 — Chapel Takeover
Nobody was sure it was going to happen. MP3 floated the idea publicly — a takeover inside The Mission to Seafarers Victoria, a working chapel on Flinders Street in Docklands. Heavy tunes, stained glass, morning light. If the chapel didn't come through, there was a 360° dome on the same property as a fallback.
The chapel came through.
Three DJs across three hours. Kelvin Ton opened at 10:30am, Crystal Cartier took over at 11:30, JC Sharp closed it out at 12:30. The set list ran across Afrobeats, Hiphop, Baile Funk, UKG, and Amapiano — all of it inside a 19th century seafarers chapel with the kind of acoustics nobody planned for but everyone appreciated.
Kiyocha was on matcha for the full session. Strong cups, poured to order, for a crowd that showed up knowing exactly what kind of morning they were signing up for. Eighty tickets sold before the doors opened.
The idea behind MP3 is that a third space is anywhere people gather to connect outside of home and work. A chapel at 10am on a Saturday, with a DJ and a matcha in hand, qualifies.
We were glad to be part of it.
